- Well, one reason to go towards the PicassoII is that they are
- still in business. OpalTech/Centaur Development no longer
- exist, at least that is what I was told recently by a salesman
- at Creative Computers (who were somehow involved in the
- ownership of Centaur).
-
- As for the boards, the OpalVision was meant as a Video Toaster
- rival - it's not a "VGA" card for the Amiga, but a Video Card,
- with Video Resolutions (which means you need an Amiga
- monitor-not a VGA Monitor). Centaur kept promising that they
- would release their Modules for the OpalVision board, but they
- never got around to it.
-
- It's graphics quality is very good, and it's paint program is
- extremely powerful (though it has no animation functions at
- all).
-
- The Picasso II is a Graphics RTG-type card, that is, it tries
- to re-assign Amiga graphics modes to VGA-Compatible modes for
- use on a Multiscan Monitor. It has a Video Encoder available
- (as a near $200 (US) add-on) for video work, if that is what
- you want.
-
- I have been told that their are better cards on the market than
- the Picasso, but I think I would recomend the Picasso over the
- OpalVision (unless you can get an OpalVision for next to
- nothing-then, well, it's a great deal.)
-
-
- I hope this has been of some help.
